How will Brexit impact shopping from Strandberg Guitars?
This text was updated on 2021-02-09
Post Brexit implementation, the UK (except Northern Ireland), is no longer part of the EU customs union, and you will be responsible for paying import duties and UK VAT on purchases from the EU exceeding £135. The prices you see in our shop will reflect the cost excluding the 25% Swedish VAT*, and instead, our shipping partner DHL Express will bill you UK VAT, import duties, and fees before delivering the shipment to you. In the end, this will end up a lower total cost to you, since the UK VAT is only 20%, and will hopefully be worth the additional effort.
We communicated earlier that we would be shipping orders to the UK with UK VAT, duties and fees paid (so-called DDP, or Deliver Duty Paid, terms). Unfortunately, this shipping method turned out to not really work out for you or us and caused a considerable additional administrative burden and extra costs.
The only complication is that for purchases below £135, the powers that be have decided that the administrative burden for paying the UK VAT ends up with the seller (i.e. us). We are currently not in a position to do this, and therefore we are unable to take orders below £135 (or €160). We are working on a solution for this, and this text will be updated as soon as we know more!
- Please note that going forward, there will be additional documentation requirements for returns. If you purchased your guitar directly from us, this will be of less concern, since we will help you organize the shipping, and we have the documentation for the original export from Sweden. But if you purchased your guitar through a dealer (i.e. Guitarguitar) we will have to strictly enforce that the return is processed via them, since the guitar was originally shipped to them.
* As you browse the shop, you may see the text "incl. XX VAT". This will be the case if the online store does not realize that you are intending to ship outside the EU, for example, due to browser security settings, or that you are in fact not located outside the EU when you are browsing the shop. When/if the store does realize that you will be shipping to the UK, the text will change to "£0.00 VAT". We have not changed the sticker price compared to before Brexit, which means that you are paying us 20% less than the remaining EU (with reservations for currency exchange rate considerations - the GBP price is adjusted periodically).
