Understanding serial numbers and how to verify them
Every .strandberg* instrument comes with a unique serial number that provides important information about when and where the guitar was manufactured. Whether you're a proud owner of a new .strandberg* guitar or looking to verify an older guitar’s authenticity, understanding the serial number format and how to use our verification tools can be helpful.
What the serial number reveals
The serial number on your .strandberg* guitar offers insight into the instrument's origins. While formats may vary slightly depending on the production year and manufacturing facility, a typical serial number can indicate:
- Factory of origin
- Year of manufacture
- Month of production
- Production batch or sequence
For example, a serial number might look like C2105123, where:
- C indicates the factory location
- 21 stands for the production year (2021)
- 05 is most often the production month (May), but it can also be a random number
- 123 is the instrument's individual number in that batch
If you're unsure how to interpret your guitar’s serial number, our support team is happy to help.
Country of origin by serial number prefix
You can tell where your guitar was made by the first letter(s) in the serial number. Here are the most common codes used:
- C – Indonesia
- D or J – Japan
- W – South Korea
- Y – China
- G or TT – Sweden
Other serial number formats have been used in the past, but these are the most commonly seen.
Verify your serial number online
To verify instrument authenticity, we offer a public and searchable serial number database. You can access it here: Serial Number Database
In this database, you can search by serial number to confirm the details of your guitar. New serial numbers are added regularly, so if your guitar doesn’t appear immediately after purchase, there’s no need to worry.
If you have an older .strandberg* guitar and can't find it in the database, please contact us and we will do our best to verify the authenticity and add it to the database.
Do I need to register my guitar for warranty?
Product registration is not required to validate your warranty. Here’s how it works:
- If you purchased directly from .strandberg*: We already have your details on file for any future warranty needs.
- If you bought through an authorized dealer: The dealer will handle any warranty claims on your behalf, and product registration with us is not necessary.
