I live in another European country and had to pay Swedish VAT on my order in the EU webshop. Is this correct?
Yes, normally when making purchases from other countries within the EU, the customer is obligated to pay VAT in the country from where the product is bought (Sweden). This is in accordance with EU tax rules: https://europa.eu/youreurope/citizens/consumers/shopping/vat/index_en.htm
One exception is if you have a business with a registered VAT identification number that applies to imports within the EU. In such cases the VAT is withdrawn from the invoice and you're instead obligated to report VAT in your own country. Please contact us to place your order.
Other exceptions at the time of writing (2021-04-01) that depending on your country of residence, you may be paying local VAT instead:
- France TVA
- Germany USt
