Why are the side dots not centered between the frets?
On guitars with a multi-scale design, traditional side dot markers which are typically centered between frets, can appear visually misleading due to the angled fret layout. To address this, all .strandberg* guitars featuring a multi scale design are designed with a compensated side dot positioning.
This design innovation repositions side dots to better match the player's visual perspective from the upper-right viewing angle. It aligns the markers more closely with the virtual center line of the fretboard scale, making finger positioning feel more natural and intuitive, despite the visual complexity of multi scale frets.
The compensation varies depending on the number of strings. 4- and 5 string basses and 6-, 7-, and 8-string guitars each have different multi scale spreads, which means the angle and visual alignment of the frets differ. As a result, the position of the side dots is individually tailored to each configuration to maintain the same ergonomic benefit across the lineup.
